How JD Credit Is Different From Other Moneylenders

The problem with choosing a moneylender in Singapore

There are more than 150 licensed moneylenders in Singapore. Open ten of their websites and you will read almost the same page ten times: fast approval, low interest, easy application, trusted since whenever. None of it is checkable, and none of it helps you choose.

Three things make this harder than it should be.

The rate you are quoted is not the rate you see advertised. "Interest from 1%" means one borrower somewhere got 1%. It tells you nothing about what you will be offered, because your rate is set after an assessment that has not happened yet. We have that line on our own homepage, and we are not comfortable with it either.

The websites are nearly identical because many of them were built from the same template. Duplicate content, recycled headings, stock photos of people shaking hands. It is genuinely difficult for a borrower to tell a fifteen year old business from a six month old one.

Scammers copy the good ones. Impostors clone a licensed lender's name, licence number and website, then approach people by WhatsApp. So the one signal that should be reliable, a professional looking website with a licence number, is the signal that has been most thoroughly forged.

Against that background, "trust us" is not an argument. So here is what we would actually check if we were in your position, and how we answer each one.

What we do differently

We tell you when you should not borrow from us. This is the real difference, and it is the one that costs us money. Our education loan page tells you to exhaust the government Tuition Fee Loan before you come to us. Our medical loan page tells you to ask the hospital about MediSave, its own instalment scheme and Medifund first. Our debt consolidation page tells you that the bank Debt Consolidation Plan is cheaper than anything we can offer, and gives you the number for Credit Counselling Singapore. Our business loan page tells you to try an Enterprise Singapore backed scheme first. No competitor does this, and there is a simple reason: it sends people away. We do it because a borrower who takes expensive money when cheap money was available is a complaint waiting to happen, and because we would rather be the lender you come back to in three years.

One shopfront, since 2010. Same unit, same complex, same neighbourhood, through two downturns and a pandemic. You can walk in during opening hours and ask questions without applying for anything. A great deal of borrowing goes wrong because the borrower never met the lender. Here you will meet the person who approves your loan, at a counter, and you can come back and find the same person.

We publish the maths, not the adjectives. Every loan page on this site carries the statutory caps in full: 4% per month interest, S$60 a month maximum late fee, 10% administrative fee, and the ceiling that total charges can never exceed what you borrowed. Most competitor sites publish none of that, because it is unflattering to put your ceiling in writing. We publish it because a borrower who knows the caps cannot be overcharged by anyone, including us.

We publish the bad reviews. Our reviews page pulls every review from our Google profile, including the critical ones, unfiltered. A wall of five star reviews on a lender's own website tells you only that somebody did the filtering.

We put our research in public. Every quarter we publish what our own book shows about how Singapore borrows: what people borrow for, how that shifts when costs rise, what we see happening to foreign workers and platform drivers. Free to read, free to cite, no email form. We think a lender that has been doing this for fifteen years should be able to tell you something you did not already know.

Where we are genuinely not the best option

Read this before you apply.

  • If a bank will approve you at a bank rate, take the bank loan. Bank interest is lower than any licensed moneylender's, including ours. If you have the income, the credit history and the time to wait, we are the more expensive choice and we will tell you so.
  • If your debts are already beyond restructuring, get free help first. Credit Counselling Singapore is a non profit that negotiates across multiple creditors at no cost to you, on 6225 5227. Another loan on top of unaffordable debt makes the month worse, not better.
  • If a government scheme covers what you need, use the scheme. For tuition, for business financing, for hospital bills. Those exist to be cheaper than us, and they are.
  • If you want everything done online without meeting anyone, we cannot help. Singapore law requires you to sign in person at our office. Any lender offering a fully online moneylender loan is either breaking the law or is not a licensed moneylender at all.

What we are good at

A defined amount, for a defined reason, decided today, explained face to face, repaid on a schedule you helped set. Specifically:

  • Borrowers banks screen out on paper. A new PR with no local credit history. A commission earner. A platform driver whose income is real but does not look like a payslip. A contract worker between projects. We assess the income you actually have, not the shape a bank's form expects it to take.
  • Timelines that cannot wait. A decision the same working day and cash at the counter on signing.
  • Situations that need explaining. If your circumstances need a conversation rather than a form, that is what a counter is for.

How to check any of this

Everything above is checkable, which is the point of writing it this way.

Frequently asked questions

Check the licence on the Ministry of Law list, check how long the business has operated at its current address, check whether it publishes the statutory caps rather than only advertising a headline rate, and read reviews on Google rather than on the lender's own site.

Yes. Interest at a licensed moneylender is capped at 4% per month, which is higher than bank personal loan rates. The trade is speed and access, not price. If a bank will approve you, the bank is cheaper.

Singapore law requires the loan contract to be explained and signed in person, so you cannot be committed to terms you have not had explained to you. It is a protection, not an inconvenience.

We assess income and affordability rather than relying on a bureau score alone, so a poor score does not end the application. An instalment you cannot afford does.

We publish the statutory caps in full, we publish our unfiltered Google reviews, we publish our own quarterly borrowing data, and we tell you on four of our own product pages when a cheaper option exists elsewhere.

Borrowing from a licensed moneylender, not a loan shark

JD Credit Pte Ltd holds moneylending Licence No. 43/2026 issued by the Registry of Moneylenders under the Ministry of Law. We have operated from the same shopfront at Hong Lim Complex since 2010. You can check our licence yourself on the Ministry of Law list of licensed moneylenders before you speak to anyone here.

There are things a licensed moneylender in Singapore is not allowed to do, and knowing them protects you:

  • We cannot advertise a loan to you by SMS, WhatsApp message, phone call or social media message. If you received one claiming to be JD Credit, it was not us.
  • We cannot ask for any fee before your loan is approved and granted.
  • We cannot ask for your Singpass ID or password, and we will never hold your NRIC, passport, ATM card or work pass.
  • We cannot approve and disburse a loan entirely online. Singapore law requires you to attend our office in person so the contract and the terms can be explained to you face to face.
  • We must explain the terms in a language you understand, give you a copy of the signed contract, and issue a receipt for every payment.

If anything about an approach to you does not match that list, stop, and report it to the Police at 1800 255 0000 or the X Ah Long hotline on 1800 924 5664.
